GENERAL INFORMATION

Longstone School is classified as a Special School for children with Moderate Learning Difficulties and other associated difficulties..

Our school opened in 1981 in Dundonald, Belfast.

We are a specialist centre interested in achieving the best for each and every pupil in our care. We offer education provision for pupils from the age of four right through until the school leaving age of sixteen.

Our team of highly experienced, skilled and motivated teaching staff provide the full NI Curriculum at individually targeted levels. Our teachers are supported in the classrooms by classrooms assistants.A rolling programme of training and review keeps our staff at the cutting edge of Special Education provision.

A warm and friendly atmosphere is characteristic of our school. We take great pride in this as we feel it is very important that our children are happy and relaxed in their school, as this aids not only their learning inside the classroom, but also the development of their own self confidence and self esteem in and out of school. We take every opportunity to celebrate with our pupils achievements and reinforce this self belief.

In conjunction with developing their self belief, we actively encourage a sensitivity to others, regardless of race or religion. Our pupils frequently take part in projects with other schools or in inter-school sporting competitions, as well as many charity events. Within the guidleines of discipline procedures and pastoral care provision we cultivate this respect for themselves and others.

As they leave our school we hope to have delevoped a happy and contented, well rounded pupils, educated and with strong self belief, ready and suited for the world of work, who will be able to look back at their time in Longstone with happy memories.
